Do’s and Dont’s of Genealogy

There are a few basics when researching your Genealogy. Remember NOT TO

ABBREVIATE NAMES, DATES AND PLACES

WHEN ENTERING YOUR ANCESTORS NAME ENTER IT THE SAME WAY EACH TIME , FOR ME IT WAS BEST TO ENTER THE FIRST NAME FIRST, MIDDLE NAME AND LASTELY THEIR LAST NAME OF COURSE.

BECAUSE MY FAMILY IS FROM EUROPE AND THEY HAVE 10 NAMES USUALLY… LOL I KNOW I HATE THAT TOO!! I ALWAYS CAPITALIZE THE NAME THAT THEY USE AS THEIR “FIRST NAME” AS IN EUROPE THEY USUALLY USE ONE OF THERE MIDDLE NAMES AS THERE FIRST NAME.

WHEN TRACKING NAMES IN THE USA , WHERE NAMES ARE LISTED AS , FIRST, MIDDLE AND THEN LAST YOU CAN ALSO CAPITLIZE THE LAST NAME.

FOR WOMAN, I USUALLY ALWAYS PUT THERE MAIDEN NAME IS AS THERE LAST NAME OR IF YOU WANT TO YOU CAN ALSO ENTER THERE MAIDEN NAME THEN AN DASH , AND THEN THERE MARRIED NAME.

WHENEVER YOU ENTER DATES WHEATHER YOU USE THE EUROPEAN SYSTEM OR THE AMERICAN SYSTEM MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE SAME FORMAT SO THERE IS NO CONFUSION WHEN TRANSCRIBING.

MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU ENTER A PLACE , AS WITH NAME, TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO CONFUSION, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE FORMAT THE SAME AND ENTER IT

CITY

COUNTY

AND THEN STATE

FOR EUROPEAN INFORMATION I USUALLY WRITE IT AS

TOWN

REGION

COUNTRY

AND THEN ANY ADDRESS.
