The B-36 Peacemaker was built for one thing: going farther.

With a wingspan of 230 feet, the B-36 was the largest piston-engine aircraft ever mass-produced. Its six Pratt & Whitney R-4360 engines were later joined by four General Electric J47 jet engines, giving the Peacemaker a total of 10 engines.

The B-36 could fly more than 10,000 miles without refueling and reach altitudes above 40,000 feet, making it a key part of America’s strategic bomber force during the early Cold War.
