A salute to Harry Jacobs, who served at Chosin with B Co., 1st BN, 32nd Infantry, Don Faith’s battalion.

Harry passed away july 2026 He experienced it all at Chosin–the terrible cold, his gun freezing up on him in his foxhole as Chinese troops assaulted the B Co line and the desperate fight to hold the perimeter for four nights. During the withdrawal, Harry joined an assault up Hill 1221, killing several Chinese soldiers near the top before being wounded himself.

After making it back to Hagaru and being evacuated to Japan, Harry learned that his brother James Jacobs with the 2nd Division had been killed in the 8th Army fight with an enormous Chinese further west. Harry could not talk about his experiences for years, even with his parents. Proud that he shared his story …
