In January 1951, as the ROK and UN forces retreated once again due to the Chinese offensive, the January 4th Retreat, a continuous series of hardships and suffering ensued as processions of refugees began crossing temporary pontoon bridges installed beneath the destroyed Han River bridges and the Han River Railway Bridge.
