Esther Benassayag was 12 years old, born 29 April 1931 in Oran, Algeria, eldest of six children of David and Fortunée.

The family moved to Marseille. Her father was arrested and deported on 23 March 1943. With no parents, Esther and her brothers Elie, 10, and Jacob, 8, were sent by the OSE to Izieu in 1943.

On 6 April 1944 all three were taken in the Barbie raid. They spent the night at Montluc, then were sent to Drancy, and deported on Convoy 71, 13 April 1944.

All three Benassayag children were murdered on arrival at Auschwitz.
