Olga Lengyel— Surviving After Losing Her Family (1944)

Olga Lengyel was deported to Auschwitz with her husband, parents, and two young sons. Upon arrival, they were separated. She later learned that her children and parents had been killed soon after reaching the camp. Olga survived months of forced labor, disease, and starvation. She later testified about the conditions inside Auschwitz and wrote Five Chimneys, one of the earliest memoirs describing life and death in the camp from a survivor’s perspective.
