4th July 1840, S.S Britannia, The first ship purpose-built for Cunard’s transatlantic mail service sets sail on her famous maiden voyage from Liverpool to Boston which would take her a rather quick 14 days. Since then the Cunard Line has continued to provide regular transatlantic crossings which over the last 186 years has seen records broken, engineering leaps in ocean liner speed and comfort whilst allowing generation after generation to fall in love with the romance of ocean travel. From the powerful four funnelled Mauretania to the sleek lines of the Queen Mary & space age QE2, each liner leaving its mark on British maritime history. Now this legendary name in Ocean travel is kept alive by the Queen Mary 2, who continues the legacy of these great ladies that have come before her.
