Hi there. How are you? My name is Tanja Jasmine Elizabeth Boehme ( in Germany it would be spelled Böhme and that is exactly where our family is from … or so I was told … thats not until I found out about the Ancestry and 23 and Me DNA test … ) In 2009 I took the Ancestry DNA test and that is where my journey began.

I found out that on my Fathers ( Bohme/Hohenhaus side ) we are
On my Mothers Side ( Seidel/Arndt side )
making me quite a mixture.
So, in the year 2000 I was helping my family with moving boxes here and there etc.. and came upon the original passenger ticket from the Sailing on the SS United States, or so I thought. What I found out later was that it was my moms original luggage tag from sailing from Bremerhaven, Germany to New York, NY….
thats whey I started searching! I came upon a box of photos in the attic and started scanning. My parents were cleaning out the attic and all of a sudden about 10 boxes full of pictures were put aside. I asked my parents if I could take a box at a time and scan each picture. They said yes, so I started and by the time I was finished it was 2 years later and 4,000 family photos and slides found and scanned.
( HINT … WHEN SCANNING FAMILY PICTURES.. MAKE SURE YOU SCAN BOTH FRONT AND BACK WHEN THERE ARE …NAMES…DATES …ANY RELEVANT INFORMATION ON THEM … SO IT IS EASIER TO GO BACK AND RESEARCH ….. TAKE IT FROM ME.. I SCANNED EACH PHOTO OVER AGAIN JUST TO DO THIS AS I KNOW … MY PARENTS WOULD BE PUTTING THEM IN THE ATTIC AGAIN … AND HAVE TROUBLE REMEMBERING WHERE THEY PUT THINGS ONCE THEY ARE ” PUT AWAY” … )
and this is what made my curiousity of my family tree go from just ” looking it up ” to passion and obsession. I live in NJ just over the bridge from Philadelphia, where this beautiful and awesome ship still stands. Since then I found out more about my parents, grandparents on both sides, and in the year 2010 I made the leap of faith and subscribed to ANCESTRY WORLD …. going from knowing about 10 people to now ( January 18th 2016 ) over 26,000 and counting…. I think its important that we all know where we come from and so one of the reasons I started this website.
